Commercial Gas Meter & Filter Pressure Drop Calculator
Accurately verify actual operating pressure drop (Δp) across any commercial gas meter or filter against the UK ≤ 0.50 mbar design target.
• How This Calculator Works (The Physics):
Gas pressure loss across flow elements is dynamically governed by the measuring technology: Turbines follow pure quadratic orifice loss ($\Delta p \propto Q^2$); Diaphragm meters incorporate mechanical slide-valve friction; Rotary meters follow Itron calibration standards based on reference natural gas ($\rho_n = 0.83\text{ kg/m}^3$); and 50μm Gas Filters calculate combined laminar Darcy media drag and turbulent casing losses.
1. Equipment / ΔPmaxPick from pre-configured manufacturer models or enter bespoke datasheet loss parameters.
2. Gas MediumSelect Natural Gas ($\rho = 0.75\text{ kg/m}^3$), LPG Propane, Butane, or Biogas.
3. Operating Flow (Q)Enter actual demand in $\text{m}^3\text{/h}$. (Boiler rating $\text{kW} \div 10.76 \approx \text{m}^3\text{/h}$).
4. Line Pressure (p)Enter supply gauge pressure in mbar (standard UK low-pressure is 21 to 25 mbar).
IGEM/UP/2 Target: Under UK commercial standards, target a pressure drop of ≤ 0.50 mbar across the sub-meter at peak duty. Using the full 2.0–2.5 mbar manufacturer allowance on low-pressure supplies leaves zero headroom for pipework and risks boiler burner lockout.
